Easter Sunday

April 9, 2023

“And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. Then they said to each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?’”

How many different sources from the scriptures there are telling us of the resurrection and appearances of the Risen Lord. From the empty tomb, the visit to the upper room, or breakfast at the sea of Galilee, all reflect the personal experience and witness. The walk on the road to Emmaus is a summary of our own experience. Does the scriptures not ‘burn within us?’ Are we able to recognize the presence of the Lord in our own lives, especially in the Eucharist? When I attend mass do the words, taking the bread, breaking, blessing, and giving, reveal once again the real presence of Christ?

A blessed Easter for all.
