Eighth Sunday of Ordinary Time

“Jesus told his disciples a parable. ‘Can a blind person guide a blind person? Will not both fall into a pit?... Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?... You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first, then you will see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother’s eye.’”

 

What a wonderful teaching as we prepare for the beginning of Lent. Spend a moment to see the need for self correction, before judging, criticizing and damaging the reputation of someone else.

 

Lent is the time for my spiritual renewal, my search for holiness, my need for personal reform, before I look for the splinter in another’s eye.

 

I look at my home, my family and ask how can I make this Lent a rewarding experience, not only in my own personal practice, but also with my spouse, with my children and those who are closest to me. Miracles can happen, but first, check out the wooden beam, ‘then you will see clearly’, and then move in the right direction.
