Fifth Sunday of Easter

May 15, 2022

“My children, I will be with you only a little while longer. I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so must you love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Jesus told us ‘that by their fruits you will know them.’ In the early days of the church non-Christians observed believers and remarked ‘see the Christians how they love one another.’ This is not a surprise, as we have been taught and commanded by Jesus.

How sad that so many spend their time criticizing the church, the weakness and human deficiencies, not realizing that we are the body of Christ. How sad, that others who profess to be Christians, spend so much time criticizing the Catholic church, rather than live the commandment which Jesus gave to all - love one another.

There is a great distinction between division and diversity. Did Jesus not pray, ‘that all may be one.’ Consider one person you can address and speak to them of unity not division. The old adage, ‘if you cannot say something well of a person, say nothing.’
