First Sunday of Advent

First Sunday of Advent

November 28, 2021

“The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and Judah. In those days, at that time, I will raise up for the house of David a just shoot; he shall do what is right and just in the land. In those days Judah shall be safe and Jerusalem shall dwell secure.”

As church we are called to shift gears, recalling the promise of Jeremiah, and looking forward to its fulfillment. Advent provides us with the opportunity to look back to the promise and seek its fulfillment once again in our lives.

We embark on this time of expectation, with great anticipation. Consider what it was like for faithful people in the centuries before Christ, yearning, desiring, seeking the fulfillment of the promise. Consider now our needs, knowing that Christ has come, but still longing for the justice and righteousness of which Jeremiah spoke.

Advent preparedness depends on me, how I pray, what I do.
