“Beloved: If you are patient when you suffer doing what is good, this is a grace before God. For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his footsteps. He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth… For you had gone astray like sheep, but you have now returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.”
How beautiful the message of St. Peter to the newly baptized, and to us. As we experience the joy of Easter time on this Good Shepherd weekend, we acknowledge the fact that we belong to His flock, walk in company with Him, and know of His care and protection. As I reflect upon Jesus’ ‘figure of speech’ we resolve to listen to His voice in a society and culture that still seems far distant.
As the beautiful prayer poem of St. Teresa of Calcutta states: ‘this is between you and God anyway.’
