Dear Brothers and Sisters,
There are a number of rumors circulating in the parish in the wake of the announcement that our cherished school will complete its 93-year mission at the end of this school year. These rumors seem to be emerging from understandable anxiety over what our future as a parish will look like. I will be sharing information as updates become available. Quality discernment takes time.
Immaculate Conception Parish was established as a mission in 1848 and as a parish in 1869. We functioned as a vibrant center of Catholicism in the Elkton area for over 80 years providing many ministries in our local and surrounding communities. Throughout our history, many changes have taken place in our parish. Through all of these changes, we have and will continue to live the word of God and serve those in our community.
The sustained participation of the parish members (of any age) is the key to successfully navigating changes while continuing our mission. As long as we gather as a faith community, we have a future as a parish. Discerning the Holy Spirit’s call to sustaining and developing the various ministries through which we witness our faith can and does change over time. Our call to Live Jesus is for us the still point, the rock on which our faith and our service remains constant.
