Second Sunday of Lent

March 13, 2022

“Join with others in being imitators of me, brothers and sisters, and observe those who conduct themselves according to the model you have in us. For many, as I have often told you and now tell you even in tears, conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of Christ. These end in destruction.”

St. Paul did not hesitate to use himself as both teacher and example of what was best for his readers. He was countercultural calling attention to impending doom. In our lives sirens alert us to danger, ambulances and fire engines ask us to respond, tornado warnings and flood warnings are made for our well being to make us aware of what is a threat to safety. We too are to be countercultural.

We enter this second week of penance, with our eyes fixed on the cross of Christ, leading us to a full and better life. ‘Our citizenship is in heaven and from it we await a savior, our Lord Jesus Christ.’

My mantra for the week: “Keep my eyes fixed on you, O Lord.”
