Sixth Sunday of Easter

May 14, 2023

“Beloved: Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear, so that when you are maligned, those who defame your good conduct in Christ may themselves be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be the will of God, than for doing evil.”

The letter of Peter has been guiding us for a few weeks, encouraging us as disciples to be witnesses of the Lord. As we follow the Lord, others can learn to place their hope and trust in Him. The virtues of gentleness and reverence are gifts we all possess and they can help lead others to Jesus Christ.

Consider someone whose life reflects the love of God for others, who reflects what Peter describes. Does that person move you to learn, imitate and enjoy what it means to ‘make holy Christ in your heart?’ Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Surround yourself with others who share the same values, cares and hope. In addition, take a minute to discuss this passage with someone.
