The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

“While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, ‘Take it; this is my body.’ Then he took a cup, gave thanks, gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, ‘This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.’”

The scene is familiar, the moment most solemn. How often we relive, re-present this moment as the one saving sacrifice takes place in our presence today.

The gesture of taking, blessing, breaking and sharing occur in front of our eyes, as Jesus speaks and says ‘take’ and tells us of the blood of the covenant, sealing our relationship with Him.

On this special day in the life of the church, the Sacrament of the Eucharist is what brings us together and makes us one with the Lord. How essential that we not only honor His presence in the Eucharist, but receive the gift He provides for me. He is truly honored when we reverently reach out to receive Him.
