“Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us, while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. Consider how he endured such opposition from sinners, in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart.”
How many different words we use to describe our lives. At times we speak of a journey. The synod process is part of that journey. Today, Hebrews refers to the race in which we participate. How often we refer to the ‘rat race.’
Regardless of the terminology, the author reminds us where to fix our gaze, on the person of Jesus. He is only not our goal, but also our companion on the journey.

It is easy to become distracted by things which draw our attention away from Him. Each day as I open my weary eyes, I can resolve to make sure that my eyes, my focus, is on Jesus to lead, guide and protect me.
