Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Who can know God’s counsel, or who can conceive what the Lord intends? For the deliberations of mortals are timid, and unsure are our plans….Or who can ever know your counsel, except you have given wisdom and sent your holy spirit from on high. And thus were the paths of those on earth made straight.”

The book of wisdom asks vital questions, which we often overlook or avoid. These few lines lead us to a most valuable consideration – discernment. The God who reveals Himself to us in the scriptures, the Jesus who revealed Himself by His becoming one with us, the church which reflects the compassionate heart of Jesus, wishes that we be firm in our faith and assured of God’s never ending unconditional love.

Reflection concerning who God is for us, thinking about my relationship with the Lord, allows me to approach that loving God with great confidence and gratitude. As I wrestle with these thoughts I am not unsure and my path is straight.
