Community Kitchen
Our parish has been involved in community kitchen since it began almost 20 years ago. It began under the leadership of Rev. Carl Mazza as an extension of the yearly thanksgiving dinner welcoming the entire community. Churches and organizations formed an umbrella group with a different provider preparing and serving a meal each Friday at Elkton Presbyterian Church. Rev. Laurel Loveless, then Pastor of Elkton Presbyterian Church , graciously offered Elkton Presbyterian Church as host church and is still the host church in 2022.
Our parish takes a turn the 4th Friday of each quarter throughout the year. We prepare the food, provide the volunteers, and enjoy the fellowship that unfolds each week. Some members of the parish donate funds toward the operating cost of our turn. Others make soup, sandwiches dessert or donate fruit. We are grateful for a delicious and nutritious meal and for the help with clean-up!
Community Kitchen September 30, 2023:
Many thanks to everyone who made our lunch on 7/28/23 so delicious and refreshing. Thanks to our cash donors for defraying the cost of the meal. Our salads, watermelon and melons hit the spot on the extremely hot day. As usual our desserts were satisfying and plentiful. Special thanks to Fr. Rich for making a surprise visit, praying a lovely grace, and spending time with guests and volunteers. What a spiritual treat! Mare Draper, our Faith Formation Director brought teens and Moms with her. They were a huge help along with our core of seasoned volunteers. Everyone kept complimenting ICC/ST. JUDE on the wonderful lunch and hospitality!!! Thank you for making us the gospel message for so many!!! Looking forward to our next service date on 10/27/23. God Bless! Stay Safe!
